성령에 관한 바울의 편지

수시 원서접수도 다 끝나고 시간이 많아서 한번 성경에 관한 내용의 글을 써봤습니다.

성령에 관한 바울의 편지 (갈라디아서 5장 16~26절)

갈라디아서 5장의 후반부는 육체의 일과 성령의 열매라는 제목으로 바울이 갈라디아의 교회 성도들에게 전하는 말씀입니다. 바울은 16절에 자기 형제들에게 성령의 가르침대로 행하면 육체의 욕심을 이루려하지 않고 17절에는 육체가 성령에 반대되고 성령은 육체에 반대된다고 말하고 있습니다. 성령을 따라 행하면 당연히 육체의 욕심을 없앨 수 있습니다. 왜냐하면 성령의 열매는 사랑과 희락과 화평과 오래 참음과 자비와 양선과 충성과 온유와 절제이기 때문에 누구든지 성령의 가르침대로 행하면 이러한 성령의 열매를 얻을 수 있기 때문입니다.

성령에 속한 사람들은 자기의 욕심을 이 세상의 것에 두지 않고 오직 하나님에게만 두게 합니다. 그래서 성령의 이끄시는 대로 행하는 사람들에게는 어떠한 부귀나 재물이 필요 없습니다. 왜냐하면 그리스도에 속한 자에게는 성령만이 절실하게 필요하기 때문입니다. 성령은 인간이 자기 안의 모든 욕심과 탐욕을 없애도록 도와주며 사람들이 하나님만을 바라보며 살 수 있도록 인도합니다. 그 이유 때문에 바울은 갈라디아에 있는 형제들에게 성령을 권하고 있습니다.

모든 그리스도 예수의 사람들은 육체와 함께 자기의 정욕과 탐심을 십자가에 못 박았습니다. 십자가의 피로 만약 우리들이 죄를 씻김 받으면 우리의 육체가 온전해지고 그 곳에 성령이 임하게 됩니다. 하지만 하나님으로부터 죄를 용서받으려 하지 않고 계속 육체의 욕망을 만족시키려 한다면 우리들은 온전해 지기는커녕 더욱 나쁜 짓을 하게 됩니다. 그렇게 되면 우리 안에 성령이 들어오는 것을 우리 자신이 막는 격이 되고 맙니다.

19절에 육체의 일은 분명하다고 말하고 있습니다. “육체의 일은 분명하니 곧 음행과 더러운 것과 호색과 우상 숭배와 주술과 원수 맺는 것과 분쟁과 시기와 분냄과 당 짓는 것과 분열함과 이단과 투기와 술 취함과 방탕함과 또 그와 같은 것들이라 전에 너희에게 경계한 것 같이 경계하노니 이런 일을 하는 자들은 하나님의 나라를 유업으로 받지 못할 것이요.” 바울은 성령이 임하지 않고 죄사함을 받지 못한 자들이 어떠한 죄악에 빠지게 되는지 구체적으로 설명해주고 있습니다.

이 본문 내용을 통해 우리들이 알아야 할 점은 바로 우리들의 욕심을 모두 십자가에 못 박아 없애버리고 우리 안을 거룩하게 만들어야 한다는 것입니다. 그리하면 당연히 성령이 우리 안에 임할 수 있게 되고 성령의 도우심으로 악한 죄악들을 멀리 할 수 있게 됩니다. 하지만 그러기 위해서는 우리들이 먼저 그리스도의 사람으로서 모범을 보여야 합니다. 하나님 외에 다른 신들을 절대로 섬기지 말고 이 세상에서의 좋은 것들에 마음이 끌려서도 안 됩니다. 다른 사람들에게 사랑을 베풀 줄도 알고 성령님의 은혜를 다른 이들과 나눠줄 줄도 아는 사람이 되어야 합니다.

Galatians Chapter 5 verse 16~26

The passage from the book of Galatians(chapter 5 verse 16~26) is titled 'Life by the Spirit' and is about Paul's words to his fellow brothers in the church of Galatia. In verse 16 Paul writes to his brothers that if they obey the will of the spirit then they will not be inclined to gratify the desires of their soul. In verse 17 he writes that the soul is against the spirit and the spirit is against the soul. If a person would follow the way of the Spirit, then he would automatically be able to quench all his evil desires inside of him. That is because the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control and whoever fulfills the will of the Spirit would receive any of these virtues from the Spirit.

People belonging to the Spirit do not set their desires on worldly things, but only upon the Lord God almighty. Those people do not need any of the riches or spoils of the world. It is because all a person of the Spirit needs is the Holy Spirit. The Spirit helps people to rid them of all their sinful desires and only look towards God. This is the reason why Paul is promoting the spirit to his fellow brothers in Galatia.

All the people belonging to Christ have crucified their sinful nature with its passions and desires. If our sins were to be cleansed by the blood of the cross, then we would be holy and the spirit would dwell in us. However if we keep refusing to be forgiven of our sins and continue to fulfill our sinful desires, then we would definitely not become holy but more sinful than before. That would be us trying to trying to prevent the Holy Spirit from entering into our souls.

It says in verse 19 that the acts of the sinful nature is obvious. "sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkeness, orgies, and the like. Paul is specifically describing the sins that those who have not been forgiven of their sins and possessed by the Holy Spirit fall into.

The lesson we could learn from this passage is that we have to crucify all our sins onto the cross and make ourselves holy. Then the Holy Spirit would be able to dwell inside us and overcome all the sins and evilness of this world by the help of the Holy Spirit. However for that to happen we must first become an example as the people of Christ. We should never worship any other idols of this world and set our hearts on all the good things of this world. We should know to love one another and share the love of God with other people.
